I remember that discussion. I think this does not apply to errors
caused by the dip. I think that no statistical method can help with the dip.
Even if you observe a long series.
Again take that example on lake Michigan. We did really many
observations for several hours.
They are all off by substantial amount.
I cannot imagine any stat procedure which will tell from those numbers
whether the dip was responsible, or watch error.
In other words,
this is the case where math cannot help:-)
