    Richard,

    I was thinking along these same lines when the US government shut down the US LORAN chains. It took out the only mid-ranged terrestrial navigation system left to us.

    My real fear right now is than N. Korea launches a nuclear bomb into the atmosphere and create an EMP. They can already get rockets to orbit and have small devices. These could seriously damage GNSS, and other, satellites and wreck havoc at sea as well as all of the other infrastructure relying on it's time signals and positions.
