I doubt that the thickness of double sided tape used to fasten mirror to leveling base could cause tilting of the mirror, if I'm understanding you correctly. In any case, this problem could be eliminated via using 4 pieces of the double sided tape, one in each corner of the mirror.

I obtained, from a local supplier, a 10 x 10" piece of front silvered, first surface mirror. My base is a piece of plywood, nominally .75" thick. My leveling arrangement is 3- 1/4" dia x 28 TPI machine bolts or screws with "t nuts". I'm using a couple of string levels to indicate leveling of the ah. They aren't especially precise, which might be a problem but a careful reading of the bubbles might serve. I suspect that I lack both the patience and mechanical skills required to make my own bubble levels.

Weather here in Pittsburgh had gone sour, it is winter. It's chilly, cloudy/rainy, can't see a thing, so I will wait it out. Who knows but what the thing I've put together might actually work.
