A few months back a navlist member posted a great story that ended up with the accidental possession of a diving helmet. Well I just had an Ebay experience that provided me with a memorable moment. I had won an auction for a mid sixties U.S. Navy Longines-Wittnaur 8 day aircraft clock which belonged to a watchmaker. There was serious anticipation on my part and when the box arrived my heart fluttered like a kids on Christmas morning. This box was perhaps the best packing job I had ever seen so there would be no chance of damage to the time piece. When I finally got to the clock itself there was an immediate recognition of the fact that I had received the wrong clock which meant that someone else had my clock and that both of us were experiencing intense disappointment. The clock that I had received was a fine swiss bedside alarm clock complete with a calibration ribbon showing a perfectly strait blue line. Not the type of clock to be kept aboard a sailing small craft. The watchmaker was very apologetic and I am once again anticipating the arrival of a seaworthy time piece. Is there anyone on the list that can explain the ribbon with the blue line on it and how this proves chronometer function? Thanks. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
