Back on 5 Feb, I wrote to Navlist as follows- ================== Frank sent the attachment - "stonehenge.stars.markedup.jpg" (included again here) with the comment "For what it's worth." And indeed, it's worth a good deal. I had been puzzling about how to create something like that, and Frank has kindly offered it up on a plate. I plan to email it to the Guardian, together with an attachment "northern sky view.gif", which superimposes my rough sketch of the Stonehenge picture on to a map of northern stars (from the almanac). Thanks to Frank, for filling in that picture; to Dave, whose identification of Vega, and other stars including Deneb, provided the key for unlocking the puzzle; and to Patrick, for identifying the sarsen stones. If anything comes of it, such as a further published correction, I will inform the list. =================== Today, the Guardian published a full response; rather more than I had asked for, or expected. It's at- http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/feb/14/problems-photos-heavens-flipping-hell?INTCMP=SRCH George contact George Huxtable, at george@hux.me.uk or at +44 1865 820222 (from UK, 01865 820222) or at 1 Sandy Lane, Southmoor, Abingdon, Oxon OX13 5HX, UK.
