Gave it a try on the TI-89 Starpilot.
First DR Lat 90°N Lon 00° gave error, I suppose something went to infinity or so.
Second Lat 89,5° N Lon 00,5 E
This resulted in acceptable a values.
Then fix by computation and updated the DR every time.
Calculated this about 8 times, everytime updated the DR until no further improvement.
Result: Fix 89° 56,5' N, 67° 41,5 E well no so near as the others, but we now about where we are.
