I've just finished working the exercise and all the results are in good accordance with yours except for the deviation calculated at sunset. Sun's amplitude according to my calculation is 23,9 which gives an azimut of 293,9, thus gyrocompass error is 0,8 W. The ship was then steering 179,2 true and given a variation of 1,3 E this yields a deviation of 9,9 E (almost 3 deg less than yours). CMG 269.8deg Dist Run 35.8 nm, SMG 11.9 knots PM Azimuth: GE is 1.4Deg East, Dev 12.4 deg W Sunset/Star Time etc: Sunset 1853 ZT, Star Time 1915 ZT (0915 UTC). LHA Aries 182. Suitable stars from HO 249 Vol I are Alkaid, Alphecca, Antares, Acrux, Regulus, Pollux, and Dubhe. 1815 Sun/LAM Fix: is Lat 14 deg 55.4� N; Long 143 deg 59.2�E PM Amplitude: Deviation is 12.6 deg East 1900 S.
