Thanks to Jeremy for his interesting plot of altitude around noon. And how refreshing it is to see it reproduced, warts and all, with no attempt to disguise what must have been a single "duff shot", for which any mariner should be forgiven. I've tried to go through the routine of folding at the point of symmetry, but have hit a minor snag when trying to get things just-so. It's quite clear what's plotted along the y axis, but what, exactly, is plotted along the x axis? There's no time axis shown. Is it actually time, or is it, as I suspect, observation number, 1 to 31, corresponding to the 31 ticks along the bottom? If the observations were taken at exactly equal time intervals, it would make no difference, the shape of the curve would be the same either way. But they aren't, so it matters (a bit), especially when we are trying hard to maximise the precise information we can squeeze from that curve.
