    David,

Not a waste of time.  Because Earhart is a popular mystery there are many web sites and blogs about her last flight and many are discussions about navigational techniques of the period.  Gary LaPook has ( IMHO ) the best - manuals and maps and pix about navigation, aircraft sextants, finding small islands using cel-nav, etc.  Even the dumb TIGHAR web site has a vast amount of documents about RDF and radios, aircraft preformance, navigation, and related information.

Take with a grain of salt any book or group that says that they KNOW what happened or where she is or what happened to her - they don't.  But don't overlook the vast amounts of imformation that they have.  Where else can you find a chart used to navigate aceoss the Atlantic from Brazill to Africa with the navigator's sun lines drawn onto the chart and his notes about the flight?
