It is 9 DEGREES, not minutes! My point was that EVEN in XVI century one could NOT determine longitude. >�But what post 12th century knowledge was required to do that? Not much. The first serious progress on the Moon was due to Tiho Brahe. This was somewhat before Barentsz but I dount that Barentsz could use this progress because the tables based on Tycho's discoveries had not been published yet. Alex.
