The research that led to this book is also the basis for the animated magnetic variation maps which you can find in various places online. I've cobbled together a few "variations" (just different presentations) which I posted for NavList a few years ago. They are located here:

Also, the original paper by Jonkers et al. is available online from several sources (search on "A. Jackson, A.R.T. Jonkers, M.R. Walker, Phil. Trans. R. Soc."). The cumulative maps of the ocean voyages they collected from logbooks are fascinating all by themselves. There's also a long review of the book George mentioned above with extensive references here:
