In some images, I can make out the microscope used to inspect the vernier. Based upon recent conversations, we know that puts it sometime before the micrometer sextant.
The handle also looks like a smoothly turned object, rather than some rounded off rectangle typical of mass production.
That's all I can get from these images, I'm sure others will have more.

The movie "First Men in the Moon" based on the novel by H.G. Wells came out in 1964 and depicted a mission to the Moon launched from England in 1899: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Men_in_the_Moon_(1964_film). There's a sextant briefly shown in the film. You can see it in the attached images. How old would you say the sextant is? It seems to me the producers found an appropriate period instrument. It's not treated with much respect by the principal characters...
