    Tony,

    No more than 5 places are needed. I will remind that the final look-up is a zenith distance so to be using the 0° to 3° range would translate into observations of 90° to 87° which are on the very high side for practical use and could be plotted directly on a plotting sheet without sight reduction if needed. When the latitude and declination sums are near or at 0° the hav-Doniol formula compenasates for the lack of precision of the tables.  Keep it simple.
