PS : That's a small world : in my day to day Civilian Aviation life, I'm constantly using an equivalent to your "rule of 60", in the sense that "1 Nautical Mile times 1 degree equals 100 ft" ... Should I ever forget that this rule is applicable only to degrees and not to %'s, I was once taught that "Navy Miles and Degrees go to bed together" ... therefore I have always remembered it without error ever since :-) .
