I too am a navigation hobbyist, I find Celestial Navigation fascinating, even though my efforts are limited to shooting off the beach in North Carolina, when I can get down there, or using a Davis Artificial Horizon in the parking area of the apartment complex where we reside. One question often elicited from passers by, when I'm taking sun shots is, What sort of camera are you using".
Did sun shots today, AM and PM, reduced and plotted them. My calculated fix was 1.5NM off GPS coordinates, which is satisfying to me, though I suppose some here could do better.
Some describe CelNav as being "good for the soul". That I cannot say, but it strikes me an a worthwhile intellectual exercise. It also turns out to be a handy excuse for more clutter, books, calculators, even slide rules.
