The following message went out to the Yahoo Sextants group, but I haven't seen it on the Google NavList. Back a few years ago when I was still in the military, I looked up the mil spec for the Mark III. It was pretty interesting, including all the accuracy requirements (with and without shades) and the test procedure. One thing I noticed was that the spec seemed to be deliberately written to match only a C. Plath or clone. But now we hear that "This product has become all but obsolete in the past few years." -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Sextants] MK III mod 1 US Navy Marine Sextant Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2007 14:30:46 -0000 From: thomasburaczewskiReply-To: Sextants@yahoogroups.com To: Sextants@yahoogroups.com Good day group members. My name is Tom Buraczewski and I am one of the owners of Scientific Instruments located in Milwaukee, WI. For many years we manufactured the MK III mod 1 Sextant used by the US Navy. This product has become all but obsolete in the past few years. We have ceased its manufacture and looking for someone who might have interest in the surplus parts as well as the C. Plath Collimator used to determine the corrections along the arc. I wanted to put out the word with the hope of finding some interest within the Nagigation community. I can send phots if you wish to contact me. If anyone has interest, or knows someone who might, I would appreciate a call.
