Re: Globes as cel-nav aids on small craft

The Russian globe accessories include two special pencils,
called in Russian "steklografik" which literally menas
"for writing on the glass", You almost never see them in the pictures,
only the empty holes for them. They were for placing Sun Moon and
planets on the globe, then you can easily erase without damaging the
    globe shining surface.

The pensils are absent for the same reasons that screwdrivers are
absent from SNO boxes: because unlike sextants, these things
    are useful for many purposes:-)

My Dutch friend (a sextant dealer who sold many SNO's) says that
he has NEVER seen a SNO complete with ALL accessories.
My own is almost complete: only one screwdriver is absent.

    Alex.
