A little late... John, you wrote:
"My friend and colleague George Brandenburg just gave me a report on your workshop in Mystic. He said it was fantastic and he learned a huge amount."

Thank you for saying so, and thanks to George Brandenburg for joining us, and thanks to Navlist members Susan Johnson (winner of the longitude prize for travelling all the way from California for the class), and Johannis Geelhoed (longitude prize winner runner-up who came all the way from Iowa), and Bob Bernecky (who walked all the way across the bridge from the other side of Mystic ;-)), and the other 15 people from all over the northeast who participated. The energy and enthusiasm of these potential navigation historians made it all worthwhile! I enjoyed it, too, and I give myself a solid B+ for the class. I've been back to Chicago, and now I'm back in Mystic again preparing for the next class.

The navigation class this coming weekend, "Easy Celestial Navigation: Latitude and Longitude at Noon" is also filling up. We're at 14 students as of today. These are very good attendance numbers, and I must say that they support my notion that prospective navigation students are more likely these days to take shorter, more intensive classes than they were 15 years ago and two and three decades ago when celestial navigation was more of a direct practical concern and a standard 6-8 week class was the norm. I have every intention of taking these classes on the road. So if you know an institution or a venue that can provide the basic support and the right atmosphere for a weekend celestial navigation class, please let me know.

And Johannis, thanks again for your kind comments. And I will pass along your thanks to Max at Mystic Seaport when I see him later this week. :)
