Something Frank hinted at, but didn't explicitly recommend, is to simply scan your surroundings with a wireless ethernet adapter. In Frank's neighborhood, and in mine, there are several connections available due to our neighbors lackadaisical approach to network security. Perhaps computer users in the UK are more savvy, but in Canada and the U.S., one doesn't have to look very far to find a high speed connection.
