I have observed many a green flash from the ships, both at sunrise and sunset. The best place is the tropics, and there is a certain kind of sky that will foreshadow a good one (incidently the same sky offers a fantastic horizon for stars).
I have some photos somewhere in my archives. I was using a high frame rate and managed to capture the blue flash as well as the green flash. Sadly it was a slow lens and on a ship so they weren't clear, but you can certainly see the color.
I won't call myself a snob, but I do certainly like to show it to the newer sailors who have never seen on and aren't quite sure if I'm be truthful or telling a sea-story.
