I don't have my 70's 229 in front of me but I seem to remember that the tables were the first to be generated by computer. Some old IBM model probably bigger than a refrigerator.

It does rather make sense that 229 would have been published BEFORE 249, right? Perhaps they reserved the number for the project earlier, and it took much longer than expected to bring it to market.
