    Patrick:

Hope you and family had a happy holiday season.

Having said that, I've used a Davis Mk. 15 sextant, it isn't great, but it works, and they don't cost all that much eithrer. I do prefer an Astra 111B. Anyhow, as I recall, I could sight stars with altitudes in the 60 degree range. Low angle shots, Venus for instance can be problematic, and I have no idea of how it would work with an AH, mirror or otherwise. For sun shots, I was usually able to do fairly well with a Davis AH.

As for Capt. Haddock, I haven't seen that movie, don't go to movies much anymore, however there is a significant difference between what happens/how things are done or work out in the movies compared to the real world.

For instance, I assume that you have seen the "sniper", with a telescope sighted rifle taking aim at his target, the scope sight lacking a reticule (post, dot or cross hair)which makes accurate shooting "akward" to say the very least.

    Alan
