Help needed on using C.Plath sextant from 1928
    From: M M

    Hi,

I have borrowed a C Plath sextant (year model 1928) in order to test whether
if it is still accurate and functional or not.

It's in pretty good shape and You can see a colour shot of it at address:

Now, I would like to ask you how to read the exact angle value.

There is an magnifying glass at the end of the moving arm. This view's lower
part is pointed to a little scale from 0 to 10 while each one of these number
gaps is divided further to six sub gaps. So 60 sub gabs plus 3 more before 0
and 3 more after 10. The views upper part sees the angle scale. So in a way
this view's value must be a combination of upper and lower scales...

You can move the magnifying glass over and around that scale area and lock it with a screw.

Do you have a clue what is the correct way to use these parts and read the
values in order to obtain the very exact angle value?

I would appreciate any help on this. Link to some manual would be as great help!

I would also like to hear your opinion about repairing this sextant abroad in
case it needs fixing - or should it be fixed at all?

    Thank you in any case!
    Kind regards Mika
