I would like to ask a silly question of my own. From the stated location at 18:15:52 UT, Jupiter's near limb lunar distance would have been measured by sextant as 6 59.4'. This can be checked by using Frank Reed's online lunar clearing application at http://www.historicalatlas.com/lunars/lunars_v4.html (Actually this is an excellent way to get immediate feedback as to how well you are doing with lunar sights.) Paul Jackson reports 7 20.8'. Was the care taken in "swinging the arc" in order to obtain the smallest distance between the two celestial bodies?
