Henning umlands pograms are quite good, also take a look at his paper tables, the larger one is quite accurate, and the smaller one is actually "good enough" for most navigation when land is below horizon.
I use the larger one fairly often and the smaller one is in my "grab bag", it is there together with two quartz watches a Davis Mk3, handheld compass and other nav equipment, yes a handheld-GPS is in there, no mater what practicality is top when safety is concerned, sextant is good but a working GPS is faster.
