Oliver, IHO S-57 is the official standard for Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC). http://www.iho.shom.fr - International Hydrographic Office web site http://www.iho.shom.fr/ECDIS/s57intro.htm - IHO Special Publication 57 (S-57) http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/enc/index.htm - Download NOAA charts (free) Jim ------------------------- Jim.Theriot@posc.org POSC -- Energy eStandards 24 Greenway Plaza Suite 1000-B Houston TX 77046 USA +1.713.267.5109 ------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: Navigation Mailing List [mailto:NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM]On Behalf Of Olivier Le Diouris Sent: Friday, April 30, 2004 5:48 PM To: NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM Subject: Hlep on Digital Charts Hello List, I have written some (open source, free) logging software, in Java, that works pretty well for me (see links below). I'd like to make them a bit richer, by using a chart in the background, that sometimes helps! Does anyone know if there is any "official" or recommended standard for this kind of data? If yes, is it documented somewhere? What I mean is that, if I have access to nautical charts in this format, will I find somewhere enough information to render those charts using my own program, even if I have to write it? I found some interesting info at http://pollux.nss.nima.mil/pubs/, but I have not been able to find explanation about this format... Any idea, hint, clue, link, etc, most welcome!
