Thanks very much for your comments. My gut feeling from reading the
seller's description was that this was a serviceable sextant and your
knowledge of the seller confirmed my judgement. The probable cost of
shipping may keep me from this one but i'm watching and will bid.

I've ruled out the other MK, IXA with averager, due to its high
initial price. The probable cost of shipping totally sinks it.

I live on St. John  in the US Virgin Islands (Lat 18� 20' N), so the
circumpolar region is extensive.  There are a lot of offshore islets
around St. John which means sun and moon shots with a marine sextant
are almost always dip-short.
