Hurricane Juan blasted through here night before last at 0300, after ravaging Halifax further south around midnight. Half a dozen boats sunk here at the yacht club. Most of the rest of us have damage. The docks at both marinas were badly damaged. All very sad. Had to get up at 0400 to go down to the marina to try to further stabilize the docks around the neighbouring boats on our pier. Beautiful night for viewing the stars, but the wind had picked up to 20 knots, threatening to undo yesterday's efforts to keep the boats from grinding together until we can untangle the mess. So I did not get any practice identifying morning autumn stars and planets. Another long day at work today, then back to the marina this evening to ready the boat for pulling out for the winter, and for repairs. Cancelled our CN class tonight, needless to say. First things first. I cannot begin to imagine what it was like on sailing vessels in centuries past during storms like that.
