    Hello Robin, we all agree on the sign and sense of Errors / Corrections. This is already an excellent point.

    Your own langage is not my native langage, however ...

    ... I have immediately understood the following wording  " 3.5.1 (a) the absolute error of x0 is Δx = xxx - x0 is the correction to x. " as meaning :

    " 3.5.1 (a) the absolute error of x0 is Δx = xx, [and as a result of this definition] x - x0 is the correction [starting from x0] to [reach/attainx.

    In addition to this, since "x" is not accurately / fully known yet at the beginning of the measuring process, it is logical to rather perform some modification (here a correction) onto your earliest and only known data at this stage which is x0.
