William here again - HEAVEN FORBID one would call a chart a "map" :)

Irv collected a lot of older Octants and Sextants, among other things.
He even has a cross staff which is a couple of hundred years old (from Holland).

I may come back to the list to get your advice.

He had a suitcase full of navigational goodies which he'd take on a cruise to
"help" the Captain including a laptop, AIS, GPS, etc.

    Really quite the character.

Thanks to William Archer for the short note about his "uncle", Irv Haworth.

Irv didn't send a lot of postings to this list, but what came were always
pithy, good-natured, to the point, and sensible. I'm sorry to learn that he
is now beyond even the reach of e-mail.

I don't know whether William Archer crewed with him aboard that elegant
ketch that's pictured, but I would like to think of Irv's navigation as
    being always "spot-on".

    George.

    Dear Navlist Members.

My name is William Archer. Irv Haworth worked for my father and was one of
    those "uncles" one has.
I am very sorry to say that Irv passed away on Jan 12 at the tender young
    age of 80.

Navigation and all things nautical were a passion of his. He passed many
articles from your mailing list to me.
You and your fellow list members kept him constantly happy during the last
several years. Not all of you agreed with what he had to say and he
certainly had opinions to share, but you were collectively very important
    to him.

You can find his old website here: http://www.hawco-marine.com/
The bottom left of the site has a picture of him taken last October has he
sold his beloved "La Brisita" to new owners.

The reason I took the time out to write instead of merely un-subscribing is
that what you say, and what you do, really matters to like minded people
all over the world. Please keep it up.

As Irv would have signed off,
