    A Jupiter Puzzle
    From: Marcel Tschudin
    Date: 2011 Oct 13, 23:21 +0300
A friend sent me the three attached photos which he took with a 30x zoom from Jupiter and four of his satellites with his wife’s new camera. He told me that he supported the camera at the house wall using also the built-in image stabilization. The three photos which have been taken in about 40 minutes intervals show how the positions of the satellites moved during the time spans. The date and (presumably approximate) time in UT+2h are given as file names.

My friend would be interested to know which satellites of Jupiter the pictures show.

I’m wondering whether these photos would even allow estimating the location where he took these photos using Jupiter’s diameter as a scale.

I do unfortunately not have the "tools" to answer his question or solve the puzzle for deriving his location.

    Marcel
