    Kollsman periscopic sextant
    From: Douglas Simpson

I have just purchased a kollsman periscopic sextant and when I look through
the eye piece I can see the bubble but the view is only through the
projection lens. I can see nothing through the periscopic lens - is the
shutter blocking the view? I have pushed the actuating button to clear the
shutter but this does not seem to work. Do I have to take off the LHS cover
to clear the shutter? I have been led to understand that you should be able
to take a celestial shot without operating the averager and hence there
should be a clear view through the periscopic lens all the time. Any ideas?
    Regards
    Doug
