An airline navigator taught me the easy way was to use TH-ZN. Set TH in the counter window and then subtract ZN from TH. In many cases you have to add 360 to TH before doing the subtraction. The result of TH-ZN is what you set the lubber line to in the optical window by rotating the sextant.
Same thing you are doing and the TH-ZN thing was a way to remember what to do. Quick and easy and it only takes a few seconds during Pre-Comp.
