    Re: Kollsman periscopic sextant mount

Have used your set up in the aircraft I flew (D-1 periscopic). Looks the same as what I used through the periscope in the aircraft bulkhead.

Not familiar with what the buff nav could see but our field had enough to give idea as what constellation or group of stars you were looking at.  For example I could tell Orion's belt and the bright star was Rigel.  This is why we had to learn the night sky in nav school and it came in handly many times.  What I am trying to find is a hand held M-10 or 12  that can be hung from a mount as you did for the periscopic.  One where the averager stil works.  Do you have any sources or ideas of where to find one that is operational?  E-bay has many--but do they work and since they can not be returned it is buyer beware.

Thanks for you message.  Enjoyed reading.  Are you a former nav or just an interested guy?  FYI the reason I am in this hunt is I am restoring a D-Day lead C-47 (for our museum) and they used a bubble dome in 1944 from which they hung the hand held

    Dick
