Yet another example of the thin line between genius and insanity (and the number of people who can't tell where the line is...)It as a fifty foot Beneteu rented from the Moorings located on Raiatea.Bill wrote:Does that have a helipad on it ;-)Lu responded:Yes, but only for something like these: http://www.centuryheli.com/ :-PYou will think I am pulling your leg (making this up) but I know a character with more money than common sense. He bought a 42' center-cockpit Beneteu which he insisted on adding cutter rigging to (for day sails and short cruises on Lake Michigan) because it looks pretty. He has also been known to rig a mast holder from salvaged aircraft landing gear for trailering his old 25' Catalina behind his 4-rear-wheel (dualie) diesel pickup truck (purchased new to haul the 25' used boat). He also designed a semi-functional gin pole for mast raising, again from salvaged aircraft parts. His brother has a one-man helicopter, as well as many other toys. One being an aircraft that supposedly will deploy a parachute and lower it to terra firma if the craft gets into trouble. This acquaintance is trying to figure out how to construct an appendage to his new-used Beneteu so his brother may land his helicopter on the "helipad" while the boat is on the Lake Michigan. I suspect if this venture fails, he may be the recipient of yet more salvaged aircraft parts. For those of you asking the big question (not whether I have gone mad or am trying to pull off an April Fool's joke on the wrong date), yes. He has bred, and has a son and daughter in their mid twenties. Can it be long before someone from that gene pool wins the Darwin Award? Bill
