Frank,
I tried the raw zip on the Irfanview 4.35 and it changed my total pixels from 10mp to 4mp. How strange is that ?
PhotoScape looks to be ok but suffers the same raw problem as irfanview :( there is a way to adjust exposure which puts it at the top of the free list for now.
I'm getting quite a laptop workout installing and uninstalling various softwares and zips ;-)

Yeah, I agree with Bill: HDR is easy these days. I have an HDR camera app on my phone and use it often. It acquires its images in less than one second, and the results can be interesting. It's a free app, so very basic. There are many new cameras that now include this capability standard.
By the way, as far as Irfanview and camera RAW image files, I'm fairly sure it does support them. Google something like "Irfanview raw". You may need to download a plugin. Via plugins, this product covers nearly every imaginable image format, at least for reading.
