George and all,I only meant to show another technique to people who may not have been aware of it.Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to show a new-comer to CN and talk it up as I did.I only wished to show how the relationship at LAN can be used if needed.I wrote that the results were questionable useing this method. But it is a tool none the less if you are in a position where it is all you may have.I was shown the technique by an "old salt" while working at sea years ago.It was explained to me about as I explained it. For all the people learning this stuff please take this into consideration. But I hope you see the relationship between you and the Sun at LAN. What is your idea of "passable"?If it is the only thing you have to use in a situation, use it.Your dr could be off vastly especially during a storm and it may be days before you get to take another sight since the Lan sight,so you can't say for all situations it is worthless.Something is better than nothing in the real world is what I was taught.I guess you have to use common sense as to the time or situation to use all these tools. George,I don't know about you but I can time the noon shot alot closer to the actual Merridian Passage than you wrote of in your post. What's so hard about doing it? I'm sorry to dissapointed you but I stand by what I wrote if taken in context.
