This topic of longitude around noon is getting a good airing. Looking for something entirely different, I happen to have stumbled on a web page describing it, in the unlikely location of the "Vietnam Maritime Social Network", at- http://www.vinamaso.net/marine-navigation/celestial-navigation/longitude-at-meridian-passage.html In deducing longitude around noon, corrections for North-South speed are completely ignored, however. The website seems to offer quite a bit of stuff on celestial (and other) navigation. If you have a bit of time to kill you might like to riffle through its pages.
