Ken Muldrew wrote- "Just a note here. As a Celestron dealer I know that the some Skyscouts exhibited a fault of complaining about magnetic interference even when there was none around. Celestron replaced those units when asked. The problem was fairly widespread." From George- I wonder what that indicates. Perhaps those locations showing such magnetic interference are sites of magnetic anomaly, where the Earth's total field, or the dip angle, diverges from the predicted values. In which case, a map of the locations of those complaining customers might well have commercial value, to a mining company. It could save a lot of effort in magnetic prospection. Just a thought... Presumably, what Celestron did next was to relax their criteria for excluding data. I'm delighted to report that I expect, soon, to have a Skyscout in my hands, by courtesy of a friendly Navlist member, in the UK.
