Hi Judy, I saw this thread the other day and didn't have a chance to
respond. The Coast Guard Auxiliary does not have a celestial navigation
class. Their Advance Navigation Class is strictly piloting (I am an
instructor for it) As a member I can get a correspondence course. Another
alternative is to check a local collage Navy ROTC class. I took my first
class from them, contrary what some collage Bursar's will tell you, ROTC
classes are open to the public. Chances are the classes will be during the
    day.

When I took the class ('84) their Nav course was divided into two classes,
the first was piloting and celestial nav, the second was mostly maneuvering
board stuff that didn't have much pertaining to us civilians. Check them
    out if you can.

I have tried to take the Celestial Navigation from my local Coast Guard but
it is difficult. For example, I have called and left messages to sign up
    and
no call was returned. Another, was they were waiting to see if they had
enough people to sign up for the class. Another time they were not sure
    when
they were going to offer the class.
Then I tryed to sign up for a Celestial Class at the Puget Sound Sailing
Institute and again they did not know where the class would be held and then
they canceled the class as they didn't have enough people sign up.
In summary, I live in a strong boating area and that is Puget Sound and I
cannot find a celestial nav course. Please do not direct me to Starpath as I
have taken one of Mr. Burch's classes and will not return to that particular
    school.
So if anyone knows of a Celestial Class in Seattle or the Kitsap Pensulia on
this list you can email me personally.

    Judy
