Learning what most of you already know about an RAF Mk IX sextant but anyway!

Gents, I recently acquired an old RAF MkIX. With the help of Bill Morris and his book, and a friend in the UK I was able to repair the bubble and lights. ( as we all know Bill is one of those guys that we come across all to little in life. A real gentleman, incredible talent and knowledge and very willing to share such knowledge.).
To my amazement it works like new. I obtained a back yard fix using: 2 sunlines, Moom, and Sirius. ( Not shot at the same time, but over the course of a few hours). No need to advance the LOPS of course as I'm not underway. To my amazement my plotted positon is .7 miles from my GPS position. Or as we used to say at sea "the GPS is working perfectly". Another detail with the MKIX that I find amazing is the lighting. While other sextants use a rheostat to adjust the light levels, the MKIX simply uses a rotating disk mounted in front of the bulb. Even a red filter is provided, and when used gives a fantastic view at night.
If anyone is looking for a usable bubble sextant these can be had for not a lot of money and are well worth it. I cannot immagine a better sexant for back yard navigation even spending hundreds more. I'd also highly recommend Bill's book for anyone interested in fixing and using one.

    Regards, Dan
