    Lightning Strike CN Exercise
    From: Greg Rudzinski
    Date: 2019 Jul 10, 05:27 -0700

It is on an early August 25 th morning 2019 that an ominous boom of thunder rolls the captain out of his comfortable hammock precisely at the same time as a blinding flash beams through the port hole. There is no doubt that lightning has struck close. An electronic equipment check reveals everything down for the count . Only the magnetic compass and a rated mechanical wristwatch survives. Inventory shows that the Davis Mark 3 and 249 tables are not aboard. Fortunately the captain has in his wallet a 10' haversine table, Ix azimuth diagram, and a 249 sun LTA (yes that will fit into a wallet at only 2 pages). Now is the time to ask...what would MacGyver do ? The distance back to Pearl Harbor is 500 NM. The last days run is 120 NM. The lower limb of the morning sun is observed on the horizon by naked eye at UTC 16:14:42. The DR position is Lat 13° 13' N  ; Lon 156° 3' W. Height of eye is 6 ft. Magnetic variation 9° E

What serendipitous coincidence has the captain smiling ?

What is the magnetic heading back to Pearl Harbor ?

For extra credit show a hav Doniol sight reduction.
