With reference to the ongoing discussion on the best calculator for navigational use, may I offer an alternative.... - No batteries required - Lasts for 50 years - Guaranteed to still work after immersion in water - Interfaces with the finest computer in the world - your own brain! The "Long Term Almanac 2000-2050" is my attempt to produce an easy-to-use long term almanac that is small enough to be easily stowed - even in the sextant box. It is good for 50 years so it will be a while before you need worry about it being out of date! The tables give the GHA and dec. of the sun and the GHA of Aries, as well as the positions of 39 selected navigational stars. The tables are generally accurate to 0.3'. (Sorry, no moon or planets) As well as the usual tables for refraction and dip, there is also a set of concise sight reduction tables which will get you found to within a mile, if you do your bit with the sextant. Go to http://www.pisces-press.com/almanac.htm and have a look. If you like it, you can buy it online. Tell me what you think... Geoffrey Kolbe.
