Re: Longitude shift on NOAA charts vs. Google Earth

    George:

In the current edition of 11513, which can be viewed on-line at http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/11513.shtml,
on the left margin of the chart just below Savannah there is a note that the NAD27 vs NAD83/WGS84 corrections are (going from NAD27 to WGS84) are 0.737" north and 0.609" east.   So these corrections are of less than 100 feet, much less than what you're seeing from Google Earth.

I just brought up Google Earth and dropped the crossbars at the southern end of the bridge that drops into the western side of Savannah.  On both Chart 11513 and Google Earth I get the coordinates as Lat 32d 5.3m N, Long 81d 6.0m W.   What do you measure on your chart??

    Lu

Lu, the chart is NOAA 11513 15th edition, July 21, 1979. The chart is 36"x48".
