    Ed,
Sorry, something happened and this was sent prematurely

I have been trying to make sense out of the March 8,1864 Time Sight as presented. I have no difficulty with the methodology, but am having a problem with the results - particularly with the declination and consequently with the polar distance. The declinationas given in the US \Nautical Almanac for Nov 8 1864, at Greenwich Mean Noon is 16-44-44.3 South, and for Noon on the 9th is 17-01-53.7 South, or a total change in 24 hrs, of slightly over 19' in 24 hrs which certainly does not equate to a 10'
correction for 1.3 hrs. I note your having made a comment on this and wondered whether you had any further thoughts on this aspect. i have also checked the British NA for 1864 and find no significant difference in the declinations as
    given.
