Mr. Eremenko: You have really stimulated discussion on this list! There has been plenty for me to read here lately, and I rarely feel I have anything additional to add. I was interested in your comment: > Today, while exploring a new search engine from Google, I > found several indications that CelNav with real sextants and > real horizon (!) was used in at least two space missions: > Skylab and Soyuz-17. Unfortunately I could not locate > complete articles but only their resumes. And I thought you would be interested to in how Celestial Navigation (referred to as Optical Navigation at NASA JPL) has been used on the Mars missions. Even methods for lunars (Phobos and Deimos) are being developed http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mro/mission/sc_instru_optical.html (and many others you can find on Google) This is not news to the old-timers here. One recent thread is at http://www.i-DEADLINK-com/lists/navigation/0403/0042.html There is more in some other threads during the same month. Thanks for all you have added to the list lately.
