MK IXB is a very reliable Hughes production used in many WW-II RAF aircraft . If you find one with heavy gear resisitance take care and do not apply force . The reason mostly is that a 3-gear inside malfunctions due to a wrong presetting of 1 screw , easily to repair Never use grease or oil for the gears , it would make them erratic . For repairs etc. only dismantling one side of box needed ,Do not touch other parts than screw mentioned above , if sextant calibration is servicable . .
