Peter F., you wrote: "What a prodigiously detailed account. All written by hand with a quill, I guess." Probably. There was a US Civil War historian, Shelby Foote, who gained fame following a multi-part tv documentary in the US about fifteen years ago --it turns out he could speak on-screen almost as well as he could write! He had written several very long books on the Civil War, and, famously, he did all his writing with a dip pen. He said it helped to focus his thoughts, and I'm sure it also helped him to step back in time a bit. Of course, he still had to make life bearable for his editor, so at the end of a day of writing, he would take his hand-written pages and transcribe them with his manual typewriter. -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
