Oh sorry. I should have looked at that.
Considering that there appears to be no cumulative difference (only daily
"random" differences), I think it's safe to assume that he is refreshing the DR
latitude daily with the observed latitude. This is an intermediate period when
navigators were still not certain that the observed latitude was necessarily
correct (though probably correct). Also, navigators would sometimes
speculate about currents based on the differences between Lat Obs and Lat
DR.
