Professor Huth, From the discussion so far, I gather that the student has access to a computer. If he can get a digital version of a topographical map of the study region, he might consider a program such as OziExplorer. It will display his digital map and allow him to plot points on the map. If he can determine the exact position of the tree, usually done with a GPS receiver, he could plot the position of the lizard perches easily. If this sort of solution is of interest have a look at : www.oziexplorer.com This is a fairly inexpensive program (< 100USD) that has been around for many years and is under active development. I have used it for approximately 4 years and am pleased with it.
